Regional Training Workshop

'REGIONAL TRAINING WORKSHOP TO SUPPORT TEACHERS

OF LEARNERS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS'

May 2019

Our first training program specifically and exclusively to support teachers of learners with special educational needs was held in May 2019, with our partners the Ghana Education Service (GES) Special Education Division (SpED), Kansas University's SchoolWide Integrated Framework for Transformation (SWIFT) Education Center, and the University of Cape Coast Faculty of Basic Education.

GES SpED regional coordinators and special education training officers were assembled for a two-day workshop of hands-on, practical training in the implementation of Inclusive Education in schools under their jurisdiction. The workshop also provided the opportunity for open dialogue on the challenges of implementing the national policy, as well as the proffering of solutions to some of the common challenges.

The workshop was led by the Head of Inclusive Education at GES SpED, Mrs. Rose Darko and the Head of Education for Learners with Intellectual Disabilities at GES SpED, Ms. Belinda Bukari. Additional facilitators were the Program Director of MultiKids Africa Mr. Farouk Illiasu and the Founder of Autism and IDD Intervention Network.
