Autism Acceptance Month
GHANA
April 2024
Our 2024 Autism Acceptance Month featured 'A Festival to Celebrate Diversity and Inclusion', a fair once again organized by CHIP-I in conjunction with 14 private special needs/inclusion schools of the National Association of Private Special Schools (NAPSS).
The Festival built on the successful event held in 2023, and neighbouring mainstream schools were invited to be a part of the celebration. There was an exhibition of art and crafts, skits, and dancing and drumming performances all produced by the children in the participating schools. There were occupational therapists on hand, and musicians, dancers, and artists who engaged the children in various activities. The highlight of the day must have been the teacher/caregiver dance-off which had everyone, including the competitors themselves, in stitches.
It was a fun and heart-warming day for children with special needs, their parents/ caregivers, the teachers and staff of the schools, attendees from the general public. Indeed the festival is here to stay!
